The Reserves couldn’t overcome Beaumaris to book a place in the Premier B Reserve Grand Final, going down by 38 points yesterday.
The game was a real tussle as both sides tried to gain the ascendancy in the contest, with conditions a little slippery making it even more difficult. The Sharks won the territory battle for most of the first half and went to the main break with a two-goal lead.
The game opened up after half-time as weather conditions improved, with the Sharks taking hold of the contest and kicking five goals to blow the lead out to 45 points at the final change.
With coach Linc Merlo throwing the magnets around in the final term, the Blacks were able to kick three goals and win the last quarter, however, could only put a small dent in the margin which sat at 38 points when the final siren blew.
Doug Arnold booted two goals and Will Mills and Jack Fuller kicked one each, while Scott Dadswell, Tom Peyton and Jacob Gardiner were among the best players in a losing cause.
All hope is not lost, however – the Reserves will face St Bernards in a preliminary final this Saturday with the winner to face the Sharks in the Grand Final. Get along to Elsternwick Park this weekend and cheer them on.
